“Glory Glory Man United” was originally released by the Manchester United squad ahead of the 1983 FA Cup Final. Written by Frank Renshaw, a former member of Herman’s Hermits during the 1970s and 1980s, the track was recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport. The team was joined by some of Renshaw’s friends for the recording, and even his son Lee lent his voice to the track.

Since 1983, Manchester United fans have embraced “Glory Glory Man United” as a key anthem, chanting it during matches to rally support. In the 1990s, rival supporters began altering the song’s lyrics to “Who the f*** are Man United?” during games. In a witty response, United fans would sing the same chant after scoring or winning against their opposition.
A full-length version of the anthem was created in 2007 by “The World Red Army” and produced by Will Robinson and Michael Graves, becoming the official song at Old Trafford. Ten years later, a follow-up version, “Glory Glory Man United 2,” was released, with updated lyrics reflecting the current squad.
Beyond the pitch, the anthem’s legacy extended to print. In 1994, “Glory Glory Man United” became the title of the club’s official poster magazine, published 13 times a year, primarily targeting younger fans with an average reader age of just over 13 years by 2007.
This iconic anthem, celebrated by Manchester United fans for decades, will surely continue to resonate with fans and players alike.
